Job Description

  • The Head of Security Risk Analysis works within the Plan International Global Safety and Security Team and will oversee the creation of a new analysis function tofurther professionalism and be more predictive in our organisational security risk management.

Dimensions of the Role

  • The role is not anticipated to have any direct reports. However, based on operational needs other security resources may be assigned to this role in certain contexts.

  • The position will provide analysis and advice to the Plan International Leadership Team and Regional and Country Management Teams on key security trends facing our staff and operations.
  • They will promote a positive security culture, focused on advancing our Security for All initiative to create a more inclusive and intersectional approach to security risk management
  • They will encourage staff to report security concerns and incidents, follow-up and/or investigate as needed, and ensure management incorporates lessons learned into future operations.

Accountabilities

  • Design and implement a professional, sector-leading security risk analysis function to support key leaders in operational decision-making and risk reduction.
  • Create high-quality analysis products and briefings, from global trends to new and emerging risks that can affect regional and country office operations.
  • Work with Regional Security Advisors and the Head of Security Training Programmes to develop and deliver security analysis workshops for country security managers.
  • Work with the Delivery, Performance, and Accountability team to identify innovative ways to integrate and repurpose existing data sources to support security risk analysis.
  • Manage external subscription-based analysis platforms and vendor relationships.
  • Build and maintain and extensive professional source network to support information sharing across sectors.
  • Ensure security risk analysis is linked with our Security for All strategy to identify and address unique risks to our staff in all their diversity.
  • Work with the Disaster Risk Management team to incorporate security data into hotspot analysis products.
  • Champion the global security strategy and promote a positive security culture, ensuring and enabling a balance between organizational responsibility and individual ownership of security.
  • Build and maintain relationships with relevant government departments, UN agencies and NGOs.
  • Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), their relevance to their area of work, and that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.

Essential:

  • Deep knowledge of security risk and geopolitical analysis methodology
  • Experience building analysis systems and products
  • Deep conceptual understanding of security risk management and risk assessment processes
  • Experience working in high-risk areas, including disasters and fragile and conflict-affected states
  • Experience working in an international NGO
  • Experience leading diverse and geographically dispersed teams
  • Able to build networks and relationships under challenging conditions
  • Communicate clearly and effectively
  • Comfortable in challenges at all levels
  • Able to deliver on time, to work under long-term pressure and to prioritize
  • Able to work with standard IT equipment and software suites (e.g. Office)
  • Strong written and spoken English

Desirable:

  • Risk management and/or project management certification
  • Ability to work in an additional language, e.g. French or Spanish
