Job Description

  • The Commercial Operations Manager is charged with the responsibility of managing the day-to-day commercial operations as well as the internal and external business interactions, operations, and processes of the University.
  • The duties shall include but NOT limited to developing new strategies to increase revenue or improve customer satisfaction.
  • These strategies might include creating new product offerings, improving existing products or services, or finding ways to streamline processes to make them more efficient in accordance with the policies and procedures of the American University of Nigeria.

Detailed listing of Responsibilities

  • Review financial strategy (including the use of profits and Reserves) and make recommendations where appropriate.
  • Produce and analyze year-end financial accounts; liaise with the internal auditors and determine a more cost-effective way of managing the University’s business operations.
  • Review, update and implement existing internal financial systems and introduce new systems and controls where appropriate.
  • Negotiate rentals and contracts with internal and external clients.
  • Recommend rental charges to manage based on the current market rate and other needful parameters.
  • Liaise with concerned departments to get data for rental pricing and price basis.
  • Collaborate with other departments on applicable rental negotiations i.e., events, IT, housing, etc.
  • Liaise with the legal office for contract processes and local/federal regulations for business activities.
  • Monitor the trend in rentals within the region and industry to report significant changes requiring management decisions for action.
  • Manage the data for the operating expenses and costs associated with client service develop and implement new methods of operating commercial facilities to increase efficiency and improve and maintain business relations.
  • Manage client relationships, identifying opportunities for new contracts.
  • Negotiate Terms & Conditions with clients.
  • Manage multiple proposals simultaneously.
  • Manage records and files of the clients.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned or delegated.

Job Requirement

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing or similar field and professional management experience in a related area or equivalency
  • 5-7 years of experience in commercial operations, with at least three (3) years in a management role.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and theories of business operations, budgeting or financial management
  • Proficiency in financial modeling processes
  • Experience in strategic planning in a business setting
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other relevant spreadsheet software to make detailed analyses and provide proper advisory on financial matters
  • Proficiency in the use of analytical and accounting software will be an added advantage
  • Must be able to plan, measure, and implement business management objectives, conduct research, establish and maintain business models, interpret and analyse complex financial data and reports
